Dear Vet, See what I did as a Youth Corper in 1987 and the lessons Part 3

Because I was determined to make extra money apart from the NYSC monthly stipend and the money I was making from the clinical practice, I got an idea.

The idea was to find a way to supply homes with fresh beef slaughtered by me! The moment I got this idea, I knew it would work. For one thing, light was 24 hours in FCT in those days, so people can conveniently keep their beef fresh if I can find a way to supply them.

Brimming with smiles and enthusiasm, I went to different flats to pitch them with my prepared form. I told my prospects that I am a veterinarian and I know the importance of eating hygienic meat. I asked my prospects to buy 4 kg of beef from me per month.

Of course I deliberately went to bachelors. You laugh!

Aha! I got many orders!

Then I went with some cattle dealers into the bush to purchase a cow. Together with the butcher and my girlfriend then (a fellow youth Corper who later became my wife), we slaughtered and packaged the beef in 4 kg portions.

Then I hired a taxi for one hour to deliver to my customers.

I made real good profit from this novel initiative. And I did this again and again.

You see, there are possibilities in life and so many especially exist for everyone willing to explore and get dirty.

I am still as vibrant as ever and still working on different ideas to make money as a veterinarian. I believe you can do this too if you keep applying yourself day and night.

I will share more stories with you in due course…
