Great Business Lessons For Veterinarians Part 1

Great Business Lessons For Veterinarians Part 1

1. When there is a hill to climb, don’t think that waiting will make it smaller.

In business, there are things you must take the responsibility to do and do fast. For example, have you registered your company with the CAC? Are you focused on getting your business tools no matter what? And so on. Whatever you need to do in order to move to the next level, get busy and do it!

2. Start every day with the most important thing you have to do. Save the less important task for later.

The temptation is always there to focus on the mundane first everyday, but this is the road to poverty and business failures. I always suggest that people should focus on INCOME GENERATING TASK (IGT) first. Please don’t take this lightly! I still try to keep to this great business lesson myself everyday. It can be tough to go for the most important task daily but the pay off is high.

3. When someone offer to pay you now or later, choose now.

You need cash flow in business. Any business. In Nigeria, people are so used to doing business on credit. This can be tough on a business just starting off. Even old businesses are constantly being threatened by chronic receivables. To thrive and keep on thriving in business, never joke with cash flow.

4. There are people who will always come up with reasons why you can’t do what you want to do. Ignore them.

That’s right. Ignore people who want to limit your possibilities in life and business. Check people who are doing well in business around you, and you will discover that these individuals at one point or the other actually turned deaf ears to naysayers. Incidentally I am one of those who keep doing this.

5. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

Someone I respect a lot says service is more important than selling. I completely agree. As a matter of fact, you will find a lot of opportunities to sell when you serve well. The business lesson you should never forget is that service will stamp your business to make money and grow beyond your wildest imagination than any other strategy.
