🌼4 Small Things To Do To Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
Say yes to growth, break out of your cocoon
How to step out of your comfort zone
Most people associate comfort zone with feelings of psychological safety and security. The biggest reason comfort zone is the preferred choice of the majority is that when you’re holed up in your cocoon, you think you’re at ease with your work. It makes you feel ‘settled’ and poses no challenge whatsoever.
However, being on supposed ‘home turf’ gives you a false sense of confidence and empowerment. You only have to step outside your comfort zone and expose yourself to unfamiliar settings to realize how vulnerable and apprehensive you feel.
The comfort zone is, in reality, a trap that keeps you confined to your safe space, puts a lid on your true potential, and pushes you into mediocrity.

You cannot have your life all planned out and operate only in a familiar environment, doing things you are comfortable with or adept at. Life is unpredictable; you never know what gets thrown your way. So you must learn to adapt to new things and navigate your way through the twists and turns of life.
Also, to make it big in today’s competitive times, you need to train yourself to be comfortable with the uncomfortable, become versatile, and be willing to take on the challenges that come your way.
Here are four ways you can push yourself to step outside of your comfort zone and explore new things.
1. Look at things from a different perspective
You are used to thinking in a particular manner and doing things a certain way. This makes your frame of mind fixed and allows you to see things only through your lens of biases, beliefs, and preconceived notions.
When you push out of your comfort zone and change your stance, you look at people and things around you from a fresh perspective.
This helps change your outlook on life, provides you with a refreshingly different view of life, and thus helps to widen your mental horizon.
Seeing things with a new perspective enables you to reframe your thoughts and thus shows you a whole new dimension of things. Shifting your standpoint also helps you gain valuable insights that you had been previously missing while staying in your comfort zone.
2. Face your fears
Every person has some kind of fear. Some are scared of public speaking; others are afraid to talk to strangers, go out in public, live alone, and so on. The list is endless.
Fear is supposed to be protective in nature to keep you safe from things that can potentially harm you. However, when fear overpowers you and controls your life, it can be counterproductive.
To stop ‘fearing your fear’ and step out of your comfort zone, you must do more of what scares you. Begin to take baby steps and confront what makes you uncomfortable.
Each time fear threatens to get you off balance, ask yourself: what’s worse that can happen? Slowly, you’ll be able to look fear in the eye and say: ‘bring it on.’
Once you’re able to drive away the fear, it’ll fade out and never come back. Imagine yourself living a fear-free life after having permanently gotten rid of it. How unburdened and relieved you’ll feel! A little bit of effort backed by faith and courage can make a monumental difference in your daily life.
3. Expand your skills
In today’s fast-paced life and changing times, those who are set in their ways and are comfortable with the status quo are likely to be taken over by the ones who are focused on leveling themselves up.
No matter how good you are at what you do, the fact is what served you yesterday and what is working for you today may become obsolete tomorrow.
The shelf life of any skill is limited. You must, therefore, move out of your comfort zone and teach yourself new skills to keep up with the competition and stay relevant.
We’re living in digital times where there are opportunities galore for learning and personal development. You only have to adopt a growth mindset and be willing to look for ways to improve yourself.
Stepping out of your comfort zone will not only boost your personal growth and help you become your best version but also build your self-confidence.
4. Allow yourself new experiences
Your experiences shape your life and make you the person you become. Opening your mind and enriching yourself with new adventures can indeed be life-changing.
However, anything new can make you anxious, especially if you’ve been accustomed to staying in your cocoon for too long.
Whether meeting new people, visiting new places, taking to a new diet, trying new stuff, or simply doing routine things differently, you must break the pattern and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Slowly nudge yourself to step away from the regular and explore the unexplored. You’ll not only find the new experiences exciting and refreshing, but they will also help you discover many unique and valuable things that can add value to your life and take you forward on the path to success.
Staying in your comfort zone will make your life easier and challenge-free. Moving out will make you feel unsettled — for a while — but contribute tremendously to your all round growth and development. The choice is yours. You want to live your best life, tapping your full potential, or be content and make peace with a half-lived life.
Stepping out of your comfort zone opens gateways to newer opportunities and possibilities for you. When you dare to explore uncharted waters, you not only grow in courage and mental strength but also open yourself to learn new things and allow yourself to grow, evolve and take yourself to the next level.
So if you want to achieve big things in life and tap your full potential, resolve to ditch the comfort zone and prepare yourself to enter the growth zone.
One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.
