🌼3 Phenomenal Books Written By Self-Made Billionaires

A reading list for anyone who wants to become successful

“Read 500 pages every day,” said Warren Buffett. “That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.”

In this article, I’ll share several phenomenal books written by self-made billionaires. All of them inspired me to think differently. Hopefully, they’ll do the same for you, too.

#Shoe Dog: A Memoir by The Creator of Nike by Phil Knight

I remember reading Shoe Dog for the first time a few years ago. I started it at 9 pm and finished it around 2 am the next morning. It was fascinating to learn about Phil’s incredible work ethic and journey to success.

Back then, I was at rock bottom, had $500 left to my name, and was willing to do whatever it took to improve my life. But it didn’t take long to see amazing results after reading Shoe Dog. I worked harder, took better care of my mental health, and fell in love with personal finance. And obviously, those steps helped me to bounce back from adversity & create a better life.

If you want to succeed as an entrepreneur in the 21st century, Shoe Dog should be at the top of your reading list!

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:

“When you see only problems, you’re not seeing clearly.”

“Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.”

“The cowards never started, and the weak died along the way. That leaves us, ladies and gentlemen. Us.”

“I wanted to build something that was my own, something I could point to and say: I made that. It was the only way I saw to make life meaningful.”

“That morning in 1962, I told myself: Let everyone else call your idea crazy. Just keep going. Don’t stop. Don’t even think about stopping until you get there, and don’t give much thought to where there is. Whatever comes, just don’t stop.”

#Zero To One: How To Build The Future by Peter Thiel

Zero To One is one of my favorite business books of all time. It shattered my worldview and helped me to think about entrepreneurship in a completely different way.

Let me explain why…

Peter Thiel is the co-founder of PayPal. He also wrote a bestselling book about entrepreneurship with a net worth of $4.2 billion.

In Zero To One, Peter discusses strategies entrepreneurs can implement to grow a successful startup. He says founders need a vision, a good product/service, and a strong work ethic to be successful. He also explains why the biggest leaps in progress are often vertical, instead of horizontal.

Read Zero To One as soon as possible!

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:

“What important truth do very few people agree with you on?”

“The most valuable businesses of coming decades will be built by entrepreneurs who seek to empower people rather than try to make them obsolete.”

“The best entrepreneurs know this: every great business is built around a secret hidden from the outside. A great company is a conspiracy to change the world; when you share your secret, the recipient becomes a fellow conspirator.”

“The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won’t create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you aren’t learning from them.”

“Elite students climb confidently until they reach a level of competition sufficiently intense to beat their dreams out of them. Higher education is the place where people who had big plans in high school get stuck in fierce rivalries with equally smart peers over conventional careers like management consulting and investment banking. For the privilege of being turned into conformists, students (or their families) pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in skyrocketing tuition that continues to outpace inflation. Why are we doing this to ourselves?”

#How To Win At The Sport Of Business by Mark Cuban

You wouldn’t expect to win an Olympic gold medal without years of practice. Nor would you expect to do 1,000 press-ups at once without prior strength training.

The same can be said for business. To make a million dollars, you must first practice & gain relevant experience. For example, Mark Cuban sold powdered milk and slept on friends’ couches for several years. Doing that helped him to get better at sales, build a thriving company, and create a multi-billion-dollar business empire.

How To Win At The Sport Of Business is a short book that you can read in one day. It also contains lots of useful advice & strategies to help you become successful!

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:

“The best way to predict the future is to invent it.”

“Success is about making your life a special version of unique that fits who you are — not what other people want you to be.”

“It would have been easy to judge effort by how many hours a day passed while I was at work. That’s the worst way to measure effort. Effort is measured by setting goals and getting results.”

“Investors don’t care about your dreams and goals. They love that you have them. They love that you are motivated by them. Investors care about how they are going to get their money back and then some. Family cares about your dreams. Investors care about money.”

“What makes a good salesperson? Let me be clear that it’s not the person who can talk someone into anything. It’s not the hustler who is a smooth talker. The best salespeople are the ones who put themselves in their customer’s shoes and provide a solution that makes the customer happy.”
