🌼Three Simple Ways to Take Control of Your Life Today

## Implement these three habits to become the master of your fate.

> “I believe the difference between great people and everyone else is that great people create their lives actively, while everyone else is created by their lives, passively waiting to see where life takes them next.” — [**Michael E. Do you think, “Bullsh*t…people can’t stop life from happening to them”?

Do you think, “Yeah, that makes sense, but it’s harder than that”?

Or do you think, “Yes…I control my destiny at all times!”

Since the first and last statements seem overly pessimistic and optimistic, most people would fall into the middle statement.

However, what if I told you that you didn’t have to subscribe to this “take what life gives you” mentality and that there are only a few different things you must do daily to change your view of the world?

While these three things won’t allow you to stop all the unplanned and random things from happening in your life, they will give you the right mindset and emotional fortitude to respond to them.

## Write your goals DAILY

So many people overlook how important this is.

Most think if they write down goals one time of the year and look at them from time to time, then that should be enough.

**The reality is that it is just the tip of the iceberg to do the mental work needed to help your mind focus on staying committed to what you want to do.**

We all know that it’s [scientifically proven](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-moment-youth/201803/goal-setting-is-linked-higher-achievement#:~:text=Setting%20goals%20is%20linked%20with,formulated%20outcomes%20in%20their%20heads.) writing your goals increases the chances you’ll be successful long term. In fact, they have a 33% greater chance of reaching their goals than those who don’t.

The reason for this relates to the intentionality of putting something to paper and the way our mind will begin to formalize plans as to HOW to reach these goals.

When we just think of something we want to do in our mind, we don’t do the work of walking through the various activities we need to do to achieve that goal.

> By changing this from one time or a few times per year to DAILY, we allow our brain to _constantly _think about what we are doing to reach those goals and allow it to work for us subconsciously to formulate plans to do so.

By writing down your goals daily, you’ll realize ideas and strategies will begin to pop into your head that you have not thought about before, which will then give you the plan to help with the second habit of taking control of your life.

## Do ONE THING each day to work toward your goals

You have to figure out what this is, but you should do SOMETHING that will help you work toward your goal.

As shared in a [recent article](https://medium.com/better-advice/increase-your-chances-of-hitting-any-goal-by-doing-this-ridiculously-simple-thing-deafb841bf30) about how to increase your chances of hitting any goal, doing a small, daily activity at the same time each day will help tremendously.

It doesn’t have to be anything grand or over the top, but it does have to be something that will help you take a step closer to reaching your ultimate goal.

For my goal of writing my book, [**Michael E. Gerber**](https://thebamboozledbook.com/), my habit was to write for 30 minutes each day.

There were days that I wrote more than this, but I always wrote for AT LEAST this amount of time.

> By doing so, I began to build momentum on my ability and created a sense of commitment not to miss a day.

This helped me write 60,000 words in only six months of practicing it

Add an additional three months of editing and rewriting, and I added another 28,000 words that culminated in its publication recently.

By making this my daily commitment to reaching my goal, I built the momentum that helped me achieve it.

## Spend AT LEAST five minutes each day assessing your day

Many people often overlook this last tip, but it is very important if you want to improve your performance each day and get better with time.

We often go through the day responding to whatever happens to us and hoping we make the right decision to move forward with our goals.

Very rarely do we actually take time to assess how we actually conducted ourselves during the course of the day to get a sense of what we could’ve done better and differently.

In the world of sports, one of the things that separate good players from great players is this exact thing.

The good players play the game. Win or lose; they go to practice the next day and work on their skills to get better.

The great players, on the other hand, when they win or lose, they take the time to watch the game film and assess what happened in the game.

By doing so, the great player learns exactly WHAT they should practice every day instead of doing so randomly.

This, in turn, allows them to get much more bang for their buck in practice because they have a distinct focus and purpose for doing so.

When you do this in life, you have a better sense of what things you should work on to improve or what scenarios could cause you to make the most mistakes to prevent putting yourself in these situations in the future.

This allows you to stack the deck in your favor by knowing yourself well enough to always put yourself in the best position to be successful long-term instead of leaving it to chance.

## Wrap up

We can’t control everything that happens to us, but we can control the things we do each day that affects what happens to us.

By implementing the three simple daily tips shared, you not only increase the chances of success long term, but you also build daily habits that will allow you to excel in so many ways.

Writing down your goals, doing one thing toward your goal, and assessing your results will pay dividends in their long-term ROI on your efforts.

And while I can’t promise by doing all of these, all of your dreams will come true; I doubt that very many of your dreams will come true if you don’t do any of them.
